From Coach Luke
Good afternoon everyone, Coming off our first tournament as a team, Dave and myself saw many good things that we can build on going forward. We were really impressed with how the boys tried to keep our formational shape, how well we defended at times, and the effort that was given throughout three games. It was our first tournament together and I think we competed in every game and that we learned what it is going to take to be a top notch team. The type of training we have been doing the past two or three weeks, the teams we ran into have been doing for the past two or three YEARS. I spoke with the Director of Coaching for the Celtic team (the team we played last) and he was very complimentary of our team. Saying how much talent we had and how many good athletes we had, but that you could tell we were fairly raw when it came to playing a higher level of soccer, meaning keeping possession and being able to hold the ball for extended periods of time. But again, that will come in time, and we will continue to harp on that in practice.
Our team has reached the age, and skill level, that passing, teamwork, formational shape, will become a necessity to win games. No longer will we be able to win games by relying on one player to dribble the whole length of the field and win games for us, it will take a team effort that emphasizes passing and unselfish play.
I would like to thank everyone for making the weekend a success and if you have any questions or concerns to contact Dave or myself, anytime.
Thank you! Luke
